It could take a number of days to rescue the speleologist, and she is expected to have fractured some of her bones during the ordeal.

The alert that she had run into some trouble was raised at around 10.30pm by the people she was with.
Ottavia was stuck inside the Abisso Bueno Fonteno cave, in Fonteno, Bergamo, Italy.
This turned out to not be the first time she was stuck in this exact same situation.

In July 2023, the woman from Adro, Italy, became trapped in the same cave for just over two days.
She broke her leg at a depth of 150 metres in a spot very close to where she is now.
Spending two days in it with a broken leg at a depth of 150 metres in a spot not far from where she is now.

The cave reaches a depth of 585 metres in total, as reported by Need To Know.
At the time, Ottavia was part of a group made up of around seven people.
They were all a part of a task which they had called ‘Operation Sebino’, for underground mapping.

Ottavia fell and became stuck, with the rescue operation being quite complicated.
Technicians have been in close contact with colleagues from all over Italy.
Outside the cave, The Alpine Rescue Service have also been present since Friday evening, flanked by carabinieri and firefighters.
The teams involved are working with specialised equipment to ensure maximum safety for both Ottavia and the rescuers.
No further details on her condition have yet been released.
The operation is expected to continue for several days.
