A man has left £140,000 in bank notes to dry in the street as onlookers decided not to go near the wads of cash.

A man, named Li, attracted lots of attention from others after he placed his money at the side of a road.

People chose not to pick up the money out of fear that they could get into trouble.

According to local press, the approximate value of the money left by Li was around £140,000, as reported by Need To Know.

Eventually, a bystander called the police in case the money had been accidentally dropped.

It soon turned out that Li had put it down in the street on purpose.

According to local police, Li stated that the money had gone mouldy due to being kept inside his home for too long.

He told them that he had decided to bring the money outside so that it could ‘sunbathe’.

Police advised Li to take the money to a bank and he agreed to do so.

It happened in Tainan, south west of Taipei, Taiwan.
