The body of a young woman was found on the roadside eight years after her disappearance.
The body of Licet Dayani Saldaña Bastidas, 21, was discovered naked with signs of violence and a shaved head.
Her hands and feet appeared to have been tied.
She was identified by a tattoo with her name on her back.
The victim, who came from Colombia, was found on the Pan-American Highway near the city of Barranca, Peru, on Saturday (10 May).

Her mother Clemencia Bastidas said the victim disappeared from her hometown in 2017.
She does not know the circumstances behind her disappearance or how she ended up in Peru.
The mother said they are a family of humble origins from the rural town of Algeciras in Colombia.
She appealed for help to cover the costs of sending her daughter’s remains back to Colombia for burial, as reported by Need To Know.

The authorities in Algeciras have been informed of the situation and are in discussion with their Peruvian counterparts about organising the repatriation.
In certain cases, the Colombian Foreign Ministry may offer to repatriate the remains of nationals who die abroad when the family does not have the finances to do so.
Clemencia said: “She was a native daughter of Algeciras, and I want to bring her here.
“But I don’t have the resources, it’s an unexpected tragedy.”
The Peruvian investigation into Licet’s death is ongoing.
