A flying motorbike that can help riders avoid rush hour traffic by swapping between land and air has gone on sale for £50,000.

The Skyrider X6 is a hybrid, three-wheeled vehicle made from carbon fibre composites and aviation-grade aluminium alloy.

Available for pre-order at about £50,000, the vehicle offers commuters a futuristic way to bypass congestion by launching straight into flight mode.

The amphibious machine, powered by electric motors and with two operating modes, debuted at the tech event known as CES 2025 by the tech company Kuickwheel.

On land, it functions as a reverse trike with a top speed of 43.5mph and a range of up to 124 miles.

In the air, the Skyrider X6 transforms into a multi-rotor drone, using a six-axis, six-rotor electric propulsion system to reach speeds of up to 44.7mph.

The bike is currently available for pre-order in China, as reported by Need To Know.

Two variants of the Skyrider X6 are on offer, with the standard version coming with a 10.5 kWh battery, which can charge to 80 per cent in 30 minutes.

It can reportedly fully recharge in just one hour.

A larger 21 kWh version delivers up to 40 minutes of flight time.

It also boasts automated takeoff, landing and route planning, along with the option for manual joystick control.

According to Kuickwheel, the creation prioritises safety and has features such as redundant motors, backup flight control systems, and a ballistic parachute for emergencies.

Earlier prototypes of the Skyrider featured eight rotors, but the production model has been refined to six, improving efficiency and lowering weight.

But the company faces a number of regulatory hurdles before the bike can be widely sold.

In China, low-altitude civilian airspace, which is anything below 200 metres, is not fully legal for public use.

Kuickwheel will also need to secure light-sport aircraft licenses, estimated at £5,136 per unit.

Operating costs are predicted to be around £0.31 per km in flight mode, with annual maintenance expenses expected to fall between £2,054 and £3,081.
