She has lived through two World Wars, the Spanish flu and the COVID pandemic.

She also recovered from receiving a new hip age of 102, and new teeth age of 103.
Emma trained as a cook and spent several years working in the hospitality industry.
In 1940, she switched to working as a tram conductor – an atypical career for women at the time.
She kept the same job until her retirement in 1970.
Emma’s punch cake – a rum-soaked dessert from Austrian cuisine – was presented to her by Vienna mayor Michael Ludwig.

Emma was born in Biedermannsdorf and moved with her family to the Styria region in 1927.
She had five siblings and was married to Josef Wenda until he died in 1969.
Emma celebrated her birthday on Monday (7 Jul).
She is also one of the oldest people in the whole of Austria, as reported by Need To Know.

She is just 13 months younger than the country’s oldest living citizen, Anna Wagner.
Emma is visually impaired but spent years listening to audiobooks to gain new knowledge.
She also has a sweet tooth, particularly for chocolate and strudels.
Once a year, on her birthday, she treats herself to a punch cake.

When once asked about her secret to longevity, Emma replied: “We had so little to eat during the war, and life was bleak and hard back then.
“That toughened the body.”
Her niece Renate revealed: “She was always curious and open to new experiences.”
Mayor Ludwig said: “Ms Wenda is a powerful reminder that it’s never too late to try something new.
“At the age of 95, she boarded a helicopter and went on a sightseeing flight.
“Today, at 110, we’re not only celebrating an extraordinary age, but an extraordinary life.
“I wish her all the very best.”
