An ex-boxer with dementia has been left heartbroken after his dog went missing.
Ed Vierling’s family fear his confusion may have led to the animal’s disappearance.
The former pro heavyweight boxer, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2017, has owned his dog for the last four years.

Ty, a black brindle staffie cross, is the 68-year-old’s best friend.
The Vierling family said Ed has been left devastated and confused after the pet, who they view as a therapy dog, disappeared from Upper Norwood, near Crystal Palace, south London.

They believe the animal was either stolen or given away to someone after Ed got confused about whether or not he had enough money to look after the dog.
Ty went missing on 25 July and the family has now launched a heartfelt appeal for his return, as reported by Need To Know.
Ed’s daughter Lana Vierling, 38, said “He’s been my father’s constant companion since he was a puppy.
“His disappearance is making his health even worse.
“The police and health care team know that and are keeping a close eye on him.

“We always check on my dad’s finances and he could afford to care for and feed Ty, but he can’t remember due to his dementia.
“Dad is very well known and popular in the area as he was a professional boxer and bouncer.
“He is very distressed and has been crying and calling Ty’s name.
“It’s breaking our hearts to see him like this.”
