A family’s Bank Holiday trip turned into a nightmare when they and their dog were left stranded in raging seas – before being dramatically saved by brave rescuers.
The five relatives and their pet pooch were cut off by huge swells from Hurricane Erin and a fast-rising tide at about 6 pm on Monday (25 Aug).
Two heroic staff from nearby Kynance Cove Café – Rudy and Chris – grabbed paddleboards and rushed to the scene, helping get the family to safety.

But their dog, Otis, bolted in panic and scrambled up the cliffs at Kynance Cove, on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall,
RNLI lifeboat crews from the Lizard then swooped in, battling worsening sea conditions.
A six-strong team joined Mullion and Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Teams to help, as reported by Need To Know.

Two crew members in a smaller boat edged towards the cliffs – one leapt onto the rocks to calm the terrified hound while the other returned for back-up and a rescue line.
Otis was eventually guided into the water, held against the side of the boat and brought safely aboard before being reunited with his relieved family.
He was later taken to the vet as a precaution.

The RNLI praised the quick-thinking café staff for their “courageous intervention” and warned beachgoers to always respect tide warnings.
An RNLI spokesperson said: “Grateful thanks must be given to Rudy and Chris from Kynance Cove Café for their courageous intervention in rescuing the family prior to our arrival.
“Our message to all beachgoers is to please heed all of the warning signs and notices and to listen to those who know our beaches, coves, and tides when being advised to move to a safer position on the beach.”
