They recovered the merchandise – Nike clothing and shoes worth several thousand, possibly millions of MXN – between Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla outside Mexico City.
The suspects are believed to be part of a gang operating in and around Mexico City and Toluca.
They allegedly specialise in stealing lorries carrying high-value goods, with textile and logistics companies among their victims.
Arriaga, 56, is said to be the father of Diego Osvaldo Arriaga García, as reported by Need To Know.
He plays for Club América, one of Mexico’s “big two” clubs alongside Chivas Guadalajara.
The attacking or left central midfielder has scored 11 goals in 62 appearances for the U23 squad.
He has also made four appearances for the senior team, debuting in January this year.
At the time of writing, neither Diego, 21, nor his club had commented on the alleged arrests.
The other two suspects have been named as Carlos Jesús Alcazar, 35, and Óscar Uriel Martínez, 27.
