Two mothers have died after undergoing plastic surgery just four days apart.
The deaths on 15 and 19 January are now being investigated by the police.
Cinthya Carvajal Guevara passed away after reportedly undergoing an operation at a clinic.
The 48-year-old suffered a serious reaction and died January 15.
She had the op in the Costa Rican capital San José.
A spokesperson for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Costa Rica said they are carrying out their own investigation into the death outside of the ongoing police probe.
They also said that the clinic itself is “in accordance with current medical protocols and professional standards.”
A spokesperson said: “The college’s prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the case of the patient who died in a cosmetic clinic when she allegedly underwent a procedure.”
Cinthya, the first victim and mother to a 22-year-old daughter, was an accountant, as reported by Need To Know.

Four days later, a second woman died after undergoing a procedure at a different clinic nearby.
Ivannia Torres Cubillo reportedly underwent a tummy tuck and at least two other cosmetic procedures.
The 40-year-old had the surgery on 10 January, but her health began to deteriorate in the days immediately afterwards.
She returned to the clinic on 15 January to inform them of her health issues, but they allegedly told her that what she was experiencing were normal after-effects.
However, Ivannia felt so ill she went directly to hospital for treatment.
Her health continued to decline until she passed away on Monday (19 Jan) morning.
The country’s Judicial Investigation Agency, which is investigating, said: “She was admitted to this medical centre after allegedly experiencing several complications from a cosmetic procedure.
“The body was sent to the judicial morgue for the respective autopsy.”
A relative, who preferred to remain anonymous, told reporters that Ivannia was a primary school teacher, and a mothe-of-three.
The College of Physicians reminded citizens to always check surgeons’ credentials beforehand to ensure they specialise in cosmetic operations and have been officially endorsed.
