A man has shared his terrifying ordeal after biting into a sharp object in his in-flight meal.

Paul Mathures, a journalist, claims the metal blade was hiding in a bowl of roasted sweet potato and fig chaat, reports Need To Know.

He shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), with pictures of his meal and of the item in question.

“Air India food can cut like a knife,” Paul said.

“I got a feel of it only after chewing the grub for a few seconds.

“Thankfully, no harm was done.

“Of course, the blame squarely lies with Air India’s catering service but the incident doesn’t help the image I have of Air India.

“What if the metal piece was in the food served to a child?”

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions.

“Now that’s a cutting edge dining experience,” Keshav said.

Kunal added: “Ouch! Glad you’re safe.”

“That’s terrible,” Liza commented.

Harpreet added: “Yikes! Glad you’re fine.”

“Scary, imagine if this food was given to a kid. Sometimes when we are watching movies, we hardly focus on food on an airplane,” commented Tony.

Paul took the Air India flight on 9 June 2024 from Bengaluru to San Francisco.

The airline didn’t respond until three days later, when a customer care representative got in touch with him.

He claims they said the matter would be investigated.

Rajesh Dogra, chief customer experience officer for Air India, said: “Air India has confirmed that a foreign object was found in the food of a guest on board one of our flights.

“After investigation, it was identified from a vegetable processing machine used at our catering partner’s facilities.

“We have worked with our catering partner to strengthen measures to prevent any recurrences, including more frequent checks of the processor, particularly for cutting any tough vegetables.

“Later, Air India has communicated with the affected customer and deeply apologizes for the experience.”
