A hero cop saved a toddler from choking on a peanut with an infant Heimlich manoeuvre.

The 20-month-old girl’s worried mum went for help after she fell unconscious.

She was rushed to a motorway police post on Saturday night (12 Jul).

Her distraught mother told the officers on duty that she had passed out after choking on a peanut.

Footage shows how one of the on-duty cops remained calm and composed as he held the toddler face down on his left hand.

He could be seen tapping her forcefully and rapidly between the shoulder blades with the palm of his right hand.

A short while later, he managed to dislodge the peanut, clearing the toddler’s airways.

The girl regained consciousness, and responding paramedics could be seen loading her into the back of an ambulance.

She was taken for a check-up at a paediatric A&E in Manaus, Brazil, as reported by Need To Know.

A Traffic Policing Battalion spokesperson said: “At around 7:45 pm, the on-duty team at the PPR-01 Highway Police Post, made up of Corporals McDonald and Giordane, was approached by a couple carrying an unconscious baby who was having difficulty breathing, possibly due to choking.

“According to the mother, the child had swallowed a peanut.

“The officers immediately called the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and began performing manoeuvres to clear the baby’s airways.

“Thanks to their swift intervention, the team was successful, and the now-conscious child was handed over to the SAMU team.

“The paramedics carried out the remaining procedures and transported the baby to the Joãozinho Emergency Unit in the East Zone for medical care.”

Viana said: “Now that was real merit — well worth a medal and a promotion.”
