A huge unstable deep channel that appeared on a beach near a £4m Omaze prize draw house has panicked ticket holders.

The dangerous chasm appeared following storms that battered the coast – leaving Omaze players asking if the house is “OK”.

The channel’s steep sides are over 10ft high and it is said to be unstable.

It appeared at Crantock Beach, near Newquay, Cornwall.

Newquay Coastguard Search and Rescue Team said: “Please be aware of the recent, unstable deep channel that has been cut into Crantock Beach as a result of the heavy rain.”

The beach is near the latest £4m property offering from Omaze, as reported by Need To Know.

The five-bedroom, four-bathroom house is currently up for grabs.

Its listing says: “As spring awakens all around, begin each day with a panorama of the turquoise Gannel passing through National Trust countryside on its way to Crantock Beach.

“Sip morning coffee in the sea air on a secluded balcony as rare birds soar overhead.

“North Cornwall’s Gannel Estuary, where the Gannel meets the dunes of Crantock Beach.

“The home of UK surfing, Fistral Beach, is moments to the north, while, to the west, the Pentire Headland offers clifftop walks, rare wildlife and big views.”

But locals and prize competitors were left very concerned by the Crantock chasm.

One person said: “Hope the Omaze house that I’m going to win is OK.”

And a local explained: “The water from very heavy rain has always caused gullies to form on this part of the beach.

“This one is excessive due to the continuous rain we’ve been having.

“It is also made worse by the volume of water, but I have to say in my opinion, you cannot keep covering fields in concrete and tarmac – the water has to go somewhere and it will find its lowest point.”

Another local said: “I have never seen anything like it on Crantock Beach or any other beach in Newquay for that matter.”

Another person added: “Wow nature is amazing but leaves things dangerous sometimes, stay safe everyone. Sand is so unstable.”

An Omaze spokesperson said: “As part of the purchase process, the property underwent comprehensive due diligence, including environmental assessments, surveys and coastal erosion assessments which did not reveal any concerns about the structural integrity of his house”

“Omaze’s in-house property team and expert professional advisors, including leading conveyancing solicitors and property surveyors, conduct thorough due diligence before the purchase of any Omaze property to ensure it meets the high standards Omaze has for its houses.

This process includes comprehensive surveys and checks including a full structural survey, title and land registry searches, local authority searches, EPC assessments and environmental reviews.

“While properties are owned by Omaze and prize draws are live, they are kept under regular review to ensure they continue to meet the high standards Omaze has for its houses.”
