A double-decker ploughed into a tree following a recent spike in bus accidents.

Commuters have been left feeling nervous after a recent influx of accidents across London.

The latest crash involved one double-decker that was left smashed up after hitting a tree trunk head on.

Shocking footage shows the aftermath of the smash on Old Kent Road, South East London.

The incident happened 24 Feb, as reported by Need To Know.

The Go-Ahead London bus was believed to be on 453 route in the Bermondsey area at the time of the incident.

The vehicle was left with its windscreen totally shattered and its front bumper split in two and glass could be seen scattered across the pavement.

Eight passengers were treated at the scene and then taken to hospital.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 10.15am on 24 February to reports of a road traffic collision in Old Kent Road, SE15.

“We sent three ambulance crews, two paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene.

“The first paramedic arrived in around seven minutes.

“We treated eight patients at the scene and took them to hospital.”

The incident comes just days after two double-deckers collided on 18 February.

One of the buses ploughed into the front of Southwark Playhouse Borough, Newington Causeway, London.

Six people were rushed to hospital following the incident.

Members of the public were left shocked by the crash.

One person said: “So many bus crashes happening, what’s up with the drivers?”

Another person added: “Those bloody trees always getting in the way.”

One other person said: “For a city that has 20mph zones everywhere, they certainly seem to be crashing their buses a lot lately.”

Another person said: “Why am I never on these buses.”

One person added: “It just jumped out in front of him.”

Jam Press has approached TFL and the Met Police for a comment.
