An ex-footballer is under investigation for gross negligence manslaughter after a young woman was crushed by an advertising sign.

Lourdes Antonini was walking along the street on an errand when a heavy wooden cube fell onto her head.

Locals called emergency services, but by the time an ambulance arrived – nearly 30 minutes later – it was too late.

The 20-year-old Argentine Army employee died instantly from a massive brain bleed.

The horror unfolded beside a building site in Buenos Aires on 4 December 2025. A chief builder and a health and safety specialist were arrested shortly afterwards.

Now, prosecutors want six suspects linked to MMCV, the construction firm behind the project, questioned over the case – including footballer turned property developer Damián Manusovich.

Manusovich, 52, is said to hold a “central and predominant role in the business”. He founded MMCV in 2010 and is the man calling the shots.

The project in question was marketed as a premium 23-unit development with “modern and functional design” – though it no longer appears on the company’s website.

Investigators found the wooden cube was poorly secured and dangerously unstable, vulnerable to wind, impacts, and vibrations, as reported by NeedToKnow.

The expert report said: “The advertising canopy was supported by a poorly built structure, with no proper bracing or cross-supports, and nails used instead of bolts and screws.”

Prosecutor Andrés Madrea added: “The structure collapsed because it was illegally built, without any proper permits or oversight.”

Manusovich played for Vélez Sarsfield, Colón, and San Lorenzo in Argentina, and CD Numancia and Elche CF in Spain between 1992 and 2001.

Primarily a left-back, he made nine appearances in the 1996 Copa Libertadores and two in the 1999/2000 Copa del Rey, even scoring in the latter.

The request for questioning will be reviewed by a judge in the coming days.
