A cop was left red-faced after accidentally putting the wrong fuel in a squad car.
The officer put diesel in the petrol force motor.
The marked Vauxhall Astra had to be left on the forecourt and a pick-up truck had to remove it.
Eagle-eyed motorist Chris Hargreaves spotted the blunder.
He said: “It caused quite a bit of chaos.
“They had to flat-bed it off the forecourt back to the station.”
It happened at the a Gulf service station in Broadstairs, Kent on Friday at 3:30pm
A note was put in the driver’s side window of the force car which read: “Wrong fuel added.
“Vehicle has not been started.”
Kent Police said the officer had been given some “words of advice” after the mishap.
Some locals poked fun at the mistake.
One – named Lewis – said: “Can’t even put the correct fuel in a car.
“But we’re meant to trust these fools.”
Zoe added: “Oops.”
But others were more sympathetic.
One – called Loretta – said: “He is human after all.”
Alex added: “Done this myself just before Christmas.
“Good bye nearly £300.”
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “On Friday, 8 September, officers attended a petrol station in St Peter’s Road, Broadstairs to refuel a marked police vehicle.
“Diesel was put in the vehicle, instead of petrol and the officer immediately noticed their mistake.
“Arrangements were made to recover the vehicle and it is currently at a local station where the fuel will be removed safely before returning to duties.
“The officer has been spoken to and words of advice given.”
