A newly-married couple spent their wedding night in hospital after the venue floor gave way, injuring dozens.
Groom, Paolo Mugnaini, and bride, Valeria Ybarra, were snapped holding hands in separate beds after part of the dancefloor caved in at their reception.
Luckily, they only sustained a few bruises and have since been discharged.
Sixty-four people were moving to the music when a 3m wide hole opened in the floor of the former Giaccherino Convent around 8pm on Saturday (13 Jan).
They were treated at the San Jacopo Hospital in Pistoia, Italy.
Guests plunged from what was once the refectory to the floor below amid rubble, debris, and wooden planks.
Thirty-five people, including a child, were injured, six seriously and 10 moderately.
Paolo’s dad told local media: “I’m shocked. I was in the hall when I heard screams, and then this catastrophe happened.
“I didn’t see the floor section collapse. I saw the hole.
“Panic set in, and we searched for where the people had fallen. After two or three minutes, we found them.”
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Pistoia has since closed off the former convent complex, which dates to the early 15th century.
A criminal case has been opened against as-yet unknown persons on charges of negligent bodily harm and omission of necessary work to remove dangers.
Investigators say structural failure was the most likely cause of the floor collapse.
Three of the 12 people who were admitted to hospital were still being kept in on Sunday (14 Jan).
One is a pregnant woman.
A man and woman admitted to Careggi University Hospital in Florence with head injuries were also still being kept in on Sunday.
Their prognoses are reserved, but they are in stable condition.
Paolo, 26, is an engineering graduate who lives in Scandicci and teaches at a school in Florence.
Valeria, also 26, is from Houston, Texas, US, and studies in Rome.
