The 16-year-old goalkeeper first went to hospital last Friday (19 Jul), complaining of nausea and vomiting.
He told medics he had recently gone swimming and had accidentally swallowed pool water.
He was so ill he even threw up in the hospital.
He was administered IV fluids and was sent home a few hours later.
On Monday (22 Jul), he returned to the same hospital in Râmnicu Sărat, Romania, in an even worse state.
He was urgently transferred to a second facility in Bucharest, and then to a third, but the medics there were unable to save his life.
Nazîru had last played for CSM Râmnicu Sărat in Romania’s Liga 3.
Before that, he had played for CS Dinamo U17, as reported on Need To Know.
The day after his passing, inspectors went to the swimming pool he’d visited to collect water samples.
The autopsy results are pending, but it’s believed Nazîru may have contracted a bacterial infection from the pool water.
Local media say a criminal investigation will be opened depending on the autopsy results.
His last club said: “Safe journey to the light, Sorin! You will forever remain in our hearts!”
