Korean Air flight 197 encountered severe turbulence as it headed to Chinggis Khaan International Airport near Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
One flyer said: “Starting a five-night, six-day trip to Mongolia.
“Just as I finished my in-flight meal, turbulence hit and the plane suddenly dropped.
“People screamed, trays flipped over, it was chaos. For a second, I thought, ‘Am I going to die?’
“I heard turbulence has been bad lately, and it’s true.”
It happened about an hour after the 24-year-old Airbus A330-300 left Incheon Airport near Seoul, South Korea, on Sunday (4 Aug).
The 281 passengers were at 34,100 ft near Tianjin, China, as a thunderstorm raged in the area.
No one sustained serious injuries, as reported by Need To Know.
But 10 passengers and four cabin crew members were left with back and neck pain.
They were given painkillers during the flight and given medical care immediately after landing at their destination.
The plane was undamaged by the turbulence and carried out the return leg back to South Korea without delays.
Korean Air has been approached for comment.
