A sports-enthusiast British family traded a mundane Sunday at home for an exhilarating day at the Olympic Games in Paris, declaring it “worth every penny.”
Paula and Ivan Holm, along with their 15-year-old son Jonah, spontaneously decided to head to Paris to enjoy a day filled with hockey and table tennis. After securing resale tickets, the entire adventure set them back £125 each.
In addition to the sports, they even squeezed in some sightseeing.

Paula explained, “I was consumed by Olympic fever and couldn’t stand the idea of the Olympics happening so close without us being there.”
She continued, “Tickets to events like British Summertime Hyde Park, Premier League football, and West End shows in London are around £100 each, not to mention the £30 train fare into the city,” Paula, an estate agent from Baldock, Hertfordshire, told Luxury Travel Daily.
“For a once-in-four-years experience, it was worth every penny. Just days before the opening ceremony, I checked for flights, and there they were. I hopped onto the official Olympic resale platform and snagged three tickets for two events.”
Their journey began with a 3:30am wake-up call to catch a 6:05am EasyJet flight from Luton to Paris, Charles de Gaulle. The round-trip flights for the trio cost £108.
After witnessing Team GB’s 4-0 victory over Spain in hockey, the family dashed to Paris Arena Sud to watch the mixed doubles table tennis quarter-finals.
They also found time to visit the iconic Eiffel Tower and enjoy a relaxing evening walk along the Seine before heading back to the airport.
Paula said, “I love the camaraderie among fans from all nations, each proudly displaying their flags and face paints while supporting great sports. I get deeply involved in sports I wouldn’t normally follow, and the dedication and commitment of athletes training to represent their countries at the highest level is truly inspiring. For flights, transport around Paris, and several hours of hockey and table tennis, we paid £125 each.”
