Why UK Residents are Going Natural with Medical Marijuana

Things do tend to move and change quite rapidly these days, have you noticed? What’s cool and accepted one day can go out of fashion in a matter of days. However, there are some things in life that go the distance and even convince people who aren’t yet on board to hop on. Going natural is one of those things. Many people have decided to forego the ‘traditional’ route of working nine-to-five office jobs, having the standard family with 2.2 kids and taking medication that could have side effects. This movement towards natural remedies has also gained momentum in the United Kingdom, particularly when it comes to medical marijuana for pain management. Let’s take a look at why UK residents are going natural.

The History of Medical Marijuana in the UK

If you live in the UK, then you’ll know that it’s not one of those countries that has always been accepting of medical marijuana as an alternative in the health and wellness field. Believe it or no, cannabis was actually classified as a controlled substance under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and it was limited to scientific research and recreational purposes. However, with that research, it quickly became evident that CBD could have so many medical benefits without the side effect often associated with ‘medication’. What came next in November 2018 was quite a moment for the UK in terms of progressive thinking because it decided to legalize medical cannabis for specific conditions.

This change was largely driven by high-profile cases like that of Billy Caldwell, a young boy with severe epilepsy whose family struggled to access cannabis oil that was effective in managing his seizures. The public outcry and media attention surrounding cases like these accelerated the legislative process. Now, in 2024, you can buy medical cannabis legally with a valid prescription for cannabis-based treatments, without too much hassle and if you suffer from neurological, gastroenterological, psychiatric, chronic pain, cancer-related or female-health conditions. The goal of this new and exciting way of managing illnesses is to help those of you who have been unable to manage your symptoms with conventionally prescribed medications or traditional treatment options.

Reasons for Going Natural with Medical Marijuana

One of the primary reasons that patients are turning to medical marijuana in the form of oils or even diffusers is its potential effectiveness in managing how they feel pain-wise as well as to combat other symptoms. Cannabis contains cannabinoids such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol), which interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system to produce therapeutic effects. Research has shown that medical marijuana can be effective in alleviating pain, reducing inflammation and improving overall quality of life for individuals with chronic conditions. Anyone reading this who suffers from chronic pain will completely understand the desire to have relief from muscle spasms, pain and stiffness that could otherwise only be treated with strong meds. Please keep in mind though that this isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution, patients should do their own research and look into different strains of medical marijuana, such as indica vs sativa, as each strain has different effects and uses.

In normal cases, people are struggling to keep up with everything they have to do these days, and imagine if you had to do it all with terrible pain in various parts of your body. The healthcare system in the UK does do its best to help and remedy illnesses. However, with so many people feeling the pain and strain of modern life, as well those who have diseases in the autoimmune realm or who don’t yet have a diagnosis, the waiting around for answers or help can honestly make everything worse. For simple cases, you go to your GP, they give you a script to remedy the bacteria or virus etc. that you may have, but for some it’s months and years of trying to find answers as to why you have pain. A diagnosis does make you feel better mentally, but it doesn’t change the fact that some people will have to be on medication for the long term – this is unacceptable, which is why people are looking for alternatives.

Holistic and Personalized Approach

When you look at the world as it stands today, people tend to see the negative, of which there certainly is plenty. But how about looking at the beautiful things that modern life has brought us? Holistic health is the only way to get better and change the way you feel. You should consider all the aspects of your life, from how much you sleep to what you eat, who you spend time your valuable time with and how you perceive your illness or diagnosis. Keep in mind that when you are looking to get healthier, you should try to approach it holistically and also include simple self-care steps that will contribute to your overall well-being. Changing your perspective – as hard as that is to do in times of pain or frustration – will help you heal in the long term. Medical marijuana fits well into this approach because it’s a piece of the healing puzzle that can give you relief while you work on taking small steps to being the healthiest and happiest version of yourself.

Medical marijuana isn’t a new thing, THC and CBD have actually been used for centuries, but people are now coming around to the idea of trying it out, not least because of the potential benefits associated with its use. If this is something you think could make your life better and decrease your pain, then take the first step to a healthier you.
