Staff members at the Yandangshan Scenic Area, located south of Shanghai in China, rushed to help the injured woman on the ground.
Meanwhile, officials closed the cable car service and reopened it after carrying out extensive checks.
The yellow cable car had the Chinese text ‘Welcome to Yandang Mountain Cableway’ printed on the window.
A man was seen seated next to the open door while apparently making a phone call to report that the woman had fallen out.
Officials said the accident was caused by strong gusts, prompting a technical fault that resulted in the door opening.
They added that it happened just after the gondola left the substation on Tuesday (1 Oct).
The victim was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by Need To Know.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
