The pickup truck was pushed down the tracks for over half a mile before the train came to a stop.
The crushed police vehicle was left wedged into the front of the locomotive.
Two officers were in the car responding to a call when the horror unfolded.
The driver, 31, and a 38-year-old corporal who was in the passenger seat were dead when the first responders arrived.

A breathalyser test confirmed that the 38-year-old train driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time.
The Uruguayan authorities say the level crossing was clearly marked and that the driver would have been aware that the train was approaching.
The train was transporting pulp from Centenario to Montevideo and was fully loaded when the tragedy unfolded on Saturday (25 Jan).

One of the deceased officers had a two-year-old child and the other had teenage children, as reported by Need To Know.

A spokesperson for the Central Railway operator stated: “In light of this tragedy, we once again urge the public to stay alert and respect the signage at all level crossings.”
