The construction team was digging a basement for a planned five-storey building in the neighbourhood of Mansoorabad in Hyderabad, India, yesterday (5 Feb).
Members of the local police and Disaster Response Force (DRF) arrived on the scene to deal with the aftermath.
The authorities said the three victims came from the same family and were aged between 50 and 21.
The owners had obtained building approval for a five-storey commercial structure with two cellars, as reported by Need To Know.
But the excavation work had commenced earlier than expected without the necessary work permits, according to investigators.
The owners are also accused of failing to implement required safety measures during the excavation work.
A criminal complaint has been filed against the owner and developer for violating laws and regulations that led to the death of three labourers.
The investigation is ongoing.
