The 62-year-old was killed instantly, according to reports.

The authorities believe the murder was planned in advance and executed by a trained marksman, possibly with a military background.
This was due to the precision involved.
He was recognised as one of the leading figures in the emerald mining business.

Sánchez was killed outside his home in the Bosques del Marqués residential complex in the Colombian capital Bogotá on Sunday (6 Apr).
He consolidated his position in the industry after his former partner Juan Sebastián Aguilar, alias Pedro Pechuga, was also killed by a marksman.

His death was in the same residential complex in August 2024.
It is home to numerous high-profile figures in the mining sector, as reported by Need To Know.
Sánchez’ wife and children were reportedly home at the time of the shooting.
The suspected hitman was positioned high in the mountains surrounding the complex and is believed to have watched the victim for several hours before firing.

The police cordoned off the family’s property and reviewed their CCTV footage for clues.
They also deployed two helicopters with thermal cameras to scour the mountains for the shooter.
But the suspect managed to escape without a trace.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is involved in the investigation to establish whether the crime is linked to transnational drug trafficking networks.
Sánchez survived a gun attack in Bogotá in October 2012.
He was reportedly shot 11 times and spent two months in a coma.
The businessman underwent 17 operations before eventually leaving the hospital.
