A fight kicked off in a branch of Greggs after a man confronted a thief.
One security guard in the store and members of the public were holding the alleged crook whilst waiting for help from police.
Suddenly, one man dressed in black ran towards the man being held and took him out with a flying kick.
The brawl flooded out onto the street with the knocked down man being flung out the bakery.
The fight took place at the Greggs, in Neville Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, which stays open till 4am.
Two police cars with their blues and twos on then arrived at the scene to help the lone security guard handle the situation.
An officer ran towards the floored man in shorts who wanted to continue the fight to keep him away.
A second officer stood between them to deescalate the situation, as reported by Need To Know.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 9.30pm on Tuesday (Jun 10), we received a report of a disturbance on Neville Street in Newcastle city centre.
“Officers attended and a man was taken to hospital and later discharged.
“A man in his 30s was subsequently charged with theft which he admitted at court and was handed a conditional discharge.
“We have since been made aware of video footage relating to the incident which we are looking into.”
Members of the public were left shocked by the footage.
Tony Gillman said: “Did he lose out on the last sausage roll?”
Kris Kyza said: “They really need to cook fresh steak bakes hourly to prevent situations like this.”
Mark added: “See’s the coppers and becomes John Cena.”
One said: “I bet they’re fighting over the last sausage roll.”
Another added: “I know how he feels, I was in there yesterday. No steak bakes, be ten minutes, had to settle for cheese and onion.”
Greggs has been approached for comment.
