The Britain’s Got Talent judge is helping the RSPCA raise funds to help rescue animals in need.

The summer is the charity’s busiest time of year as cruelty against animals accelerates.

The TV personality, 46, watched in horror as a cowering Staffie-cross called Roy was hit and thrown to the floor by a man in an unprovoked attack.

The cruelty was caught on video and later investigated by the animal welfare charity, as reported by Need To Know.

Alesha said: ”It was extremely difficult to watch Roy being treated so awfully, it really upset me. I am so grateful the RSPCA rescued him.

“Roy was quiet and cowering before he was thrown down and hit.

“It was shocking. It was obvious how terrified he was.

“It will stay in my mind for a long time.”

Roy was treated at the RSPCA’s Birmingham Animal Hospital.

Alesha enjoyed an emotional meet-up with the mutt who was rescued and rehomed with new owners in Lancashire.

The mum-of-two added: “It must be so difficult for those on the RSPCA frontline to witness these awful incidents on defenceless animals like Roy on such a frequent basis.

“I was so relieved to hear how he was rescued from such an abusive situation, and I really admire the work of the RSPCA and the fact that they give a voice to animals who are unable to be heard.”

The RSPCA released shocking new statistics to show a massive 33 per cent annual increase in cruelty reports to the charity during the summer period.

Alesha, who had a rescue dog called Daisy from the RSPCA, said: “I loved meeting Roy and his new owners at RSPCA’s Birmingham Animal Hospital, where he was initially treated.

“He’s a super-sweet dog and I’m so pleased that he is now a healthy and happy, much-loved pet living the best life with his loving owners, the two other dogs he lives with and adores.

“Roy is having the best life living by the seaside and enjoys all the opportunities that it has to offer.

“He went from being a broken dog who was too terrified to mix with people when he was first rescued, due to his trust issues, to now living life to the full and putting his sad past behind him.

“That is why I support the work of the RSPCA.

“Their amazing rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming work is so important in giving pets in need a new and happy chapter in their lives they deserve.

“Sadly, cruelty is on the increase, especially in the summer months, with one report every four minutes made to the RSPCA – and I would urge animal lovers to support this amazing charity and, if you can, donate to their Summer Cruelty Appeal.”

The RSPCA has launched its fundraising campaign as the charity sees a peak in cruelty incidents as the weather warms up.

Last summer, the charity received 374 reports of cruelty against animals every single day.

RSPCA Chief Inspector, Ian Briggs, said: “Every two minutes that our cruelty line is open, we receive a report of animal cruelty during the months of June, July and August, but together, we can save animals from the cruel side of summer when cruelty peaks.

“Thanks to the public supporting us, we are able to rescue many animals, rehabilitate them and find them new homes – but to continue this life-saving work, we need people to support our Summer Cruelty Appeal.”

Alesha added: “I was fortunate to have grown up with many pets, and I know how they can really help improve our emotional well-being and offer so much affection and positivity.

“I’ve had a lifelong love of animals, and now I am lucky to have a platform that can reach so many people.

“I want to make sure that I use my voice to speak up for animals on vital issues such as campaigning against animal cruelty in all its forms, or encouraging people to adopt rescue pets.

“RSPCA centres are full of animals who need homes, so it upsets me when people breed more animals when so many are already in need of a good home.

“I know first-hand the great work the RSPCA do and adopted my own dog Daisy from the charity.

“I was on a tour of RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre when I heard a nine-week-old puppy whimpering and ended up bringing her home that day.

“I had Daisy for 13 amazing years before she sadly passed away, but we had some great times as a family, and we have many beautiful memories of her.”
