The 37-year-old was found dead in the operating room of Buzau County Hospital in Buzau, located north-east of Bucharest, Romania, last Tuesday (28 Oct).
Dr. Szabo was both a surgeon and the hospital’s medical director, often working 32-hour shifts.
According to reports, one of her colleagues has admitted to giving her a dose of the strong anaesthetic in her office just before her death.

Beforehand, she is believed to have removed several drugs from the pharmacy, stating that she needed them for a patient.
An empty syringe was found in the office along with several boxes of sedatives and a strong painkiller that can only be obtained with a prescription.
Investigators are considering several options as they await the results of toxicology tests.
The results of the initial autopsy confirmed the presence of a strong anaesthetic in the victim’s body.

Officials are waiting for the toxicological findings to determine the amount used and whether it caused her death.
The victim was buried in her hospital uniform with her stethoscope placed by her side inside the coffin, as reported by Need To Know.
She was laid to rest in Bucharest on Saturday (2 Nov).
