Tom Kerridge has been mocked for selling a huge £18.50 burger with two patties, bacon, and cheese…in support of a DIABETES charity.

The TV cook’s dish also has a fried egg bizarrely on top of the bun.

Chips and onion rings can be added on the side for £7 and £5.50 each respectively.

He has teamed up with ex-England rugby captain Will Carling to make the burger – with £1 going to JDRF UK.

But customers have poked fun at the choice of charity – which funds medical research to treat, prevent, and cure Type 1 Diabetes.

The Will Carling Double Decker guest burger is on sale at the Kerridge’s restaurant The Butcher’s Tap and Grill in post-Marlow, Bucks to coincide with the Six Nations rugby tournament.

Kerridge, 50 said: “I’m sat next to England legend Will Carling,“This is the Grand Slam Double Decker.

“In it is gherkin, tomato ketchup, a double-decker cheeseburger, bacon, mayonnaise, brioche bun, and a fried egg on the top.

“There charity that Will’s chosen is…”Carling, 58 – who played 72 times for England between 1988 and 1997 – said: “JDRF.

“Which is for Type 1 Diabetes.

“It would be great if anyone is kind enough to buy one of these and the proceeds will go there which will be lovely.”

The pair then tucked into the burgers.

Ben Stiff joked: “A diabetes charity and you’re eating that?”

Sally Hook added: “Not for those with Type 1 Diabetes maybe.”

Steve Snow said: “Looks great, had to laugh when Will said what the charity was though.”

Nancy Druce quipped: “That will feed a family of four.”

Karla Peter said: “Get that egg under the bun where it belongs.”

Chris Kelly echoed this adding: “What’s with the egg ‘on top’ illogical and unnecessarily messy.

“Otherwise looks very good.”

Yet Dave Brookes said: “That should be called heaven in a bap.”

Jacqui Man added: “That looks great.”

Type 1 Diabetes is caused by the immune system attacking insulin-producing cells in the body.

According to Diabetes UK, eating healthy is important for sufferers.

It’s website reads: “If you have Type 1 Diabetes, it’s still important to eat a healthy diet to help you manage your blood sugar levels.”

Type 2 Diabetes is caused by high sugar levels in the body not making enough insulin.

It can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

The Diabetes UK website adds: “The main things you can do to lower your chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes is to eat more healthily, lose weight if needed.

“So you have a healthy weight and healthy waist size and to move more.”

Kerridge owns nine restaurants in the UK and has three Michelin stars.

Last week he was blasted for charging £19.50 for a jacket potato at one of his pubs.

In January Kerridge had a potty-mouth rant at customers after his pricey fish and chips were compared to something from a supermarket “frozen aisle.”

The chef branded the customer a “d*ck” for slamming his dish.

He is now charging £32 for it at a Kerridge’s Bar and Grill in central London.

It came after he hiked the price of his fish and chips to £37 at his Kerridge’s Fish and Chips eatery in Harrods, in September.
