A plank of wood that Jack and Rose used as a life raft in the Titanic film is selling for £31,000.

The movie prop was used in Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet’s characters’ final moments together in the 1997 movie.

The ‘Hero Floating Wood Panel’ is made from balsa wood.

It has floral accents and curves carved into it.

On the back of the wood there is a plaque – certifying its authenticity.

The plaque reads: “Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Titanic.

“Twentieth Century Fox / Paramount Pictures. 1997.”

It continues: ”Floating panel that he uses to save her life in the sinking sequence of the film, in their roles as ‘Jack Dawson’ and ‘Rose DeWitt Bukater.’

”Courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox.”

The wood has been intentionally distressed and aged to be used a film prop.

But according to Heritage auctions, who are selling the piece, “it is based on the most famous complete piece of debris salvaged from the 1912 tragedy.”

The listing states that the wood is “often mistakenly referred to as a door.”

However, Heritage auctioneers, in Dallas, Texas, US insists that it is part of the door frame just above the first-class lounge entrance.

The size of the wood has often been debated by film-lovers – with many arguing that the pair could have easily both fitted on top of the doorframe.

But in the film, DiCaprio’s character sacrificed himself for his love interest and froze to death in the water.

It is unclear how much the prop is estimated to sell for, but it has a high starting bid of $40,000 (£31,671).

The online auction ends on 23 March.

The description reads: “Original hero flotation prop made of balsa wood crafted with ornate floral accents and scrolling curves – design motifs prevalent in rococo architecture.

”Based on the most famous complete piece of debris salvaged from the 1912 tragedy, this intricately carved prop bears a striking resemblance to the Louis XV-style panel housed in the Maritime Museum in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

”Director James Cameron regularly visited the museum when doing research for the Oscar-winning film, which inspired him to create a similar piece of debris to stage Jack’s (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose’s (Kate Winslet) emotional final moments.

”Researchers believe the original oak panel represents the precise area where the luxury liner split in two.

”After breaking apart, it is theorised that the panel rose to the surface as the ship sank into the North Atlantic Ocean.”

Additional props from the film are also up for auction.

Rose DeWitt Bukater” Iconic Chiffon “Swim Dress” is set to sell for at least $20,000 (£15,838).

Kate Winslet’s character wore the long gown during the film’s climatic final scenes.
