A woman has shared how ChatGPT may have saved her life after she asked the AI tool for a palm reading – only for it to flag a potentially cancerous mole on her hand.

Hoping for it to shed light on what the future holds for her romantic life, Trinity Page Davenport decided to try out the feature on the chatbot, sending it a picture of her hand.

But instead, the 24-year-old received a warning message telling her to seek medical advice, noting that a mole under her forefinger resembles acral lentiginous melanoma – a rare type of skin cancer.

Trinity documented the shocking turn of events in a TikTok which has gone viral, garnering more than five million views.

She said the AI device may have saved her life.

“It’s really cool to think about the ways that AI can help people and if this is an instance in which a robot saved my life so to speak, I will be really grateful and I hope that more people use the technology if they’re concerned,” Trinity, an office operations manager, told Need To Know.

The Kentucky, US native first logged on to the system to get an insight into her future.

She said: “I asked ChatGPT for a palm reading because I was interested in getting it done and I don’t have a person who does it near me.

“I expected it to talk about my love life because that’s what I was most interested in finding out about.”

But the response was wildly different, reading: “Before we get into any palm reading – I strongly recommend you get that mole on your palm checked out by a dermatologist.

“It may be nothing, but its location and appearance could resemble something called acral lentiginous melanoma, which is a rare but serious form of skin cancer that tends to appear on the palms, soles, or under nails.

“It’s always better to be safe and get a professional evaluation.

“Once you’ve had it looked at and cleared, I’d be happy to read your palm for fun.”

Trinity said she had noticed the mole “pop up” in 2020 after she welcomed her son, and she “never considered it to be anything dangerous”.

Trinity said of her reaction to ChatGPT’s response: “I was pretty calm because I have had a lot of health issues in the past and it’s just something else I need to get looked at.”

She is now awaiting an appointment with her doctor to get the concerning mole checked.
