Local media say 43-year-old, Nguyen Vinh Phuc, shot N.V.B.T. in revenge for a tragedy involving his daughter.
Phuc’s daughter was 14 years old when she died in a traffic accident on 4 September 2024.
N.V.B.T. was behind the wheel of a lorry when he strayed into the opposite lane to overtake a parked pickup truck.
Nguyen Ngoc Bao Tr. and her friend were riding their electric bikes in that lane at the time.
After seeing the lorry stray into her path, Bao’s friend braked.
Bao was riding a short distance behind, crashed into her friend, and fell onto the tarmac.
She was then fatally run over by the lorry’s front wheel.
Judges later found N.V.B.T. to have been at fault for overtaking unsafely.
But, a subsequent review, concluded that Bao had failed to keep a safe distance or pay attention to the vehicle ahead.
After shooting 33-year-old N.V.B.T., Phuc walked for about 200 m before shooting himself in the head.
Responding police rushed both men to A&E and seized Phuc’s homemade, revolver-style gun.
At the time of the last update on Monday, both men were in critical condition.
