A 39-year-old suspect, Shacory Carnell Daniels, has since been charged with murder, attempted robbery and firearm-related offences. He is being held without bail and is due back in court on 30 June.
According to relatives, Solomon and a friend were walking back to their cars after leaving a nightclub when they were approached by a man demanding his jewellery in Oakland, California.

His brother, Emmanuel Solomon, said: “He was scared of guns. For him to die of gun violence, that’s sad and really tough for us.”
Family members described Solomon as a devoted father, son and brother who immigrated from Ghana before pursuing a career in healthcare.
He studied nursing before working at healthcare facilities in the Bay Area, where colleagues and patients remembered him for his compassion.
A GoFundMe launched following his death says he leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter as well as relatives in both the US and Ghana.
His sister-in-law, Nana Ekua Solomon, said: “Lartey was not just a headline.

“What Lartey was doing online wasn’t for financial reasons, it was his passion. We want his legacy to still live.”
Prosecutors allege Daniels shot Solomon during an attempted robbery in the early hours of 31 May.
He was arrested four days later and charged with murder, attempted robbery, firearm discharge and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The shooting happened in downtown Oakland, California.
