Constructed in 1073, the medieval fort of Oxford Castle boasts a rich history spanning 951 years.
Significantly damaged during the English Civil War from 1642 to 1651, the structure was repurposed as Oxford Prison from 1785 until 1996.
Throughout its tenure as a prison, it housed infamous inmates including 18th-century murderess Mary Blandy, baby killer Anne Green, and Roland Jenkes, convicted of libel.
Today, Oxford Castle and Prison stands as a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past.
For Valentine’s Day, couples can enjoy a meal in the cell of Mary Blandy for £170, while dining in Jenkes’ or Green’s cell costs £160.
For £170, couples can indulge in romantic dinners in the Debtors Tower, featuring two floors, or opt for a more intimate setting in the crypt for £180.
A spokesperson for Oxford Castle and Prison invites guests to dine in style this Valentine’s Day, offering a choice of six unique locations within the historic building.
From authentic Georgian prison cells to the wood and barred environs of the Debtors Tower, or the 900-year-old Norman crypt, couples can enjoy a delectable three-course meal accompanied by a complimentary bottle of prosecco.
