A mysterious ‘monolith’ that was found in the countryside last month has been taken down after the area had an “overwhelming influx” of visitors coming to see it.
The bizarre mirrored column appeared overnight on a hilltop in Fort Collins, Utah.
It was found by Brooke Williams, manager of the local Howling Cow Café, on 23 June.

After reports of the bizarre structure by Need To Know, the monolith became something of a tourist hotspot – with people theorising it could have alien roots.
It came following reports of a similar mirrored column in the desert near Las Vegas in May.
Earlier this week, a spokesperson for the Howling Cow Café said: “We took “the Monolith” down and are keeping it safe.”
They urged the creator to get in touch if they wanted it back, and said they had removed it “due to the overwhelming influx of people on the farm”.
The structure was eight-foot tall and four-foot wide, and was bolted to a concrete pad.
At the time of its discovery, Brooke told Need To Know: “I was walking into the cafe on Sunday morning enjoying the beautiful landscape when I noticed something on top of a hill.
“I have worked here for three years now and there are always things you pass every day, but don’t see, so I didn’t think twice about it and went on with my morning.
“As we opened a woman came into the cafe with her husband ecstatic and asking about ‘the alien structure’.
“I was confused and had no clue what she was referencing so she showed me a post she’d seen on social media about a monolith.
“She went on to tell me about similar structures that have appeared around the United States and what they were.
“We are not aware of who put it there or where it came from no one has come forward.
“The question is what is this thing? A monolith, sculpture, structure, local art piece or alien?”
