A 70-year-old fisherman has been rescued after being swept out to sea by a huge wave at a holiday hotspot popular with Brits.
The stranded OAP was drifting dangerously close to an area of jagged rocks.
Dramatic footage shows a rescue helicopter hovering over the fisherman’s position in the sea.
Meanwhile, other rescuers are seen monitoring the situation from a nearby jet ski and small boat.
The elderly angler is then airlifted onboard the rescue chopper before he can be dashed against the nearby rocks.
The unnamed fisherman was rescued near the Pechiguera Lighthouse on the southernmost tip of Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, Spain
The Rescue and Emergency Service in Lanzarote (EMERLAN) was informed of the situation at around 11.30am on Sunday (Nov 3)
An EMERLAN vessel was accompanied by a helicopter of the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES).
Local Police officers were also sent to the scene to offer assistance.
The helicopter team quickly located the victim in the sea before the waves could buffer him towards the jutting rocks.
After the rescue, an EMERLAN spokesperson said the fisherman had been knocked into the sea by a huge wave, as reported by Need To Know.
He then became stranded in the water as eyewitnesses called for help.
The elderly man was found to be suffering from mild hypothermia and underwent some tests at a nearby clinic.
Luckily, he did not require hospital care and was allowed to recover from his ordeal at home.
