Police arrived to investigate an apartment on the evening of 5 January after receiving reports of a shooting.
Inside, they found the lifeless bodies of 35-year-old Ashlee Corona and her husband, as well as the injured toddler.
It has been reported that a neighbour’s security camera captured the couple’s final hours.
Ashlee and Andrew can be seen walking past the camera wearing football jerseys.
Ten hours later, three loud gunshots were heard followed by a brief pause, and then another single gunshot.
Sergeant Phil Krynsky, of Phoenix Police, said the person who called emergency services stated that they had heard an argument preceding the gunshots.
According to neighbours, arguing at the apartment located in the Avilla Gateway complex, in Phoenix, Arizona, was common.
It has been suggested that the couple were heard arguing on and off for around a year.
They added that nothing ever indicated that the arguments would become violent.
Ashlee and Andrew’s son, Maverick, will be cared for by both sides of his family when he is able to be released from the hospital.
As he recovers from his injuries, Ashlee’s family members have set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for the future care of Maverick.
So far, £13,783 has been raised of their £16,495 target, as reported by Need To Know.
In emotional words, Ashlee’s family shared their heartbreak.
They wrote: “She was a vibrant, loving, and caring individual.
“She loved life and everything it had to offer.
“Singing and dancing were her passions.
“[She was a] dedicated mum to Mavy, she loved her son with all her heart.
“She was always available for anyone who needed her and touched many lives.
“She will be greatly missed by many but never forgotten.”
Investigators are currently working to determine what exactly led to the shooting.
