With the rapid tide approaching, emergency services, including Merseyside Police, scrambled to the scene.
The group of mates were out exploring on Hilbre Island in West Kirby.
Three tidal islands – Little Eye, Middle Eye, and Hilbre – are a popular destination for visitors and are accessible during low tide.

RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat team arrived and helped the youngster to safety before the other six were also collected and taken to shore.
The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team provided the teens with safety advice following their return.
The rescue mission took place at about 6:45pm on Wednesday (20 Aug), as reported by NeedToKnow.
A spokesperson from RNLI West Kirby Lifeboat team said: “We were paged at 6:45pm this evening to reports of a person stuck on a cliff ledge on Middle Eye.
“We launched within ten minutes and located a teenager stranded around 15ft from the base of the cliff.

“A crew member was put ashore to assess the situation and found the casualty unable to climb to safety unaided.
“As a result, the crew supported the casualty back to safety.”
A spokesperson for the Wirral Coastguard added: “With this a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter was requested for a potential winch recovery, while Coastguard Rescue Officers prepared to attend the island and set up a safety handrail system for the casualty to hold until the helicopter arrived.
“Thankfully, before the helicopter arrived, the lifeboat crew were able to support the casualty safely back to the top of the cliff.
“A safe outcome for all involved. Please take extra care when visiting the islands – the ground can be uneven and slippery.”
