Gun cops had to storm a Starbucks to arrest a man after they had a 999 call saying he had a knife.

Ryan Miller was seen sitting at a table with a friend having a coffee as the armed officers swooped.

The 36-year-old was forced to stick his hands up as he was cuffed and arrested.

Other customers watched on in horror as the officers nicked him during the lunchtime rush.

One even wrongly thought they were being arrested.

In the police’s bodycam footage, they are seen approaching the front of the Starbucks, near the Orton Centre shopping mall in Peterborough, Cambs.

One asks: “Is there a back exit you can see?”

They walk in at 12:24 pm on 12 January and spot Miller at a table on the far side.

An officer said: “Show me your hands.

“Show me your hands.”

An innocent customer said: “Who me?”

But the gun cop added: “No.”

He then continues: “Stand up, move in.

“Stand up, just stay there, turn around.

“Let’s get him in handcuffs

“Let’s get him arrested.”

He then tells Miller: “At this moment in time you’re under arrest okay?

“For possession of a bladed article in a public place and stalking.”

He then reads him his rights before the 54-second video ends, as reported on Need To Know.

A Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “A man who was arrested in Starbucks by armed police after allegedly making threats to kill his ex-partner has been jailed.

“Ryan Miller, 36, was arrested in the Orton Centre coffee shop on 12 January after police received a 999 call stating he was in possession of a kitchen knife and he was going to stab someone.

“On two occasions throughout the morning, Miller attended his ex-partner’s home, the first time removing the dog but returning with it a short while later.

“It was reported to police that he then made several phone calls to the woman and her new partner, making threats to stab them and petrol bomb the address.

“Miller, then turned up at the address for a third time, this time brandishing a kitchen knife and began kicking the front door.

“Failing to get in, he made his way to a friend’s house nearby where he told them about what he’d just done and they took the knife off him.”

Miller and the friend then went to Starbucks where armed police located them, arresting Miller for being in possession of a knife in public and stalking.

He appeared at Huntingdon Law Court last Thursday (28 Mar) where he was sentenced to nine months in prison after previously admitting being in possession of a knife in a public place.

Miller, of Peterhead Close, Orton Southgate, was also charged with making threats to kill, which he denied and was accepted in court, but made subject of a 10-year restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his ex-partner.

Det Con Jon Coupland, who investigated, said: “This was understandably a frightening ordeal for those involved, as well as members of the public who were present when armed police arrived at the coffee shop to arrest Miller.

“I would like to thank those who called us that day and supported our investigation. I hope the sentence will give Miller some time to reflect on his actions and make better decisions in the future.”

Local Gillian Bean said: “All the police forces we see on tv are doing an amazing job.

“Its just the sentence doesn’t match the crime.

“Our judicial system needs a shake-up. Too many slaps on the wrist and not enough long sentences.”

Jordan May added: “Whole system is broken.”

But Martin Pilarski said: “Nice work.”
