A boy is recovering at home after being mauled by a stray cow while playing in the street.
Horror footage shows the animal chasing down the child before knocking him to the ground as he screamed in terror.
The boy’s sliders were sent flying as the cow repeatedly jabbed at him with its horns.
Luckily, locals alerted by his cries came running to help.
One man was seen grabbing one of the discarded sliders and slamming it against the ground in an attempt to scare the animal away.
He then scooped up the child and fled with the help of others as the cow, joined by a second bovine, charged after them down the narrow lane.
The rescuer stumbled and fell, but shielded the boy with his own body as the cow closed in again.
A second man then intervened and managed to drive the animals away.
The incident happened in the Tughlakabad area of New Delhi, India, last Friday (19 June), as reported by Need To Know.
Authorities later captured both animals and took them to a goshala – a shelter for stray cows – in Delhi’s Rewla Khanpur area.
An official source told local media: “The child sustained injuries in the incident. He is recovering now.”
Local officials say the number of stray cattle has been rising steadily due to the large number of illegal dairies operating in the area.
They have pledged action against the businesses involved, as well as against cattle owners who allow their animals to roam freely on public roads.
