The chilling moment a masked burglar tried to break into a country home was caught on CCTV.
The hooded crook was spotted lurking in the back garden of Nigel Cross’s bungalow.
He was holding a torch to see where he was going.

The would-be thief walked past the BBQ and patio furniture in the backyard.
The man started peering in the windows of Nigel’s house in the tiny village of Freuchie, near Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland.
But he was spooked when his Ring Floodlight Camera was activated.

The burglar then scarpered out of the garden.
His keys were stolen but the crook didn’t get in, as reported on Need To Know.
Nigel called cops and the thief was arrested and later convicted.
There was a spate of other thefts in the area the same night.
Relieved Nigel, 55, said: “There is no doubt Ring prevented a real attempt on the patio doors or garage.
“By having devices on my property, it deterred a crime taking place.
Dave Ward, Managing Director EU and International at Ring, added: “This footage shows exactly how effective smart security can be.
“When an intruder is suddenly exposed by bright lights and realises they’re being recorded, their first instinct is typically to flee.”
A Ring spokesperson said: “In the footage, a hooded man is seen creeping across the back garden.
“The movement activated the built-in floodlight on the Ring camera, causing the intruder to flee, successfully deterring the attempted burglary of his bungalow.
“Unfortunately, others in the area were not so lucky.
“Police confirmed many homes and sheds were broken into that same night, with bikes and van keys stolen.
“Thankfully, Nigel’s prompt action in sending the Ring footage to the police resulted in not only a successful conviction.
“But the recovery of the stolen keys.”
