One officer can be seen cautiously making his way through the dimly lit basement, checking each room before approaching the bathroom.
As he draws back the shower curtain, he’s met with the silent silhouette of a woman.
The officer yells in shock before quickly recovering and making the arrest.
Police later confirmed the figure was the suspect himself, a convicted drug dealer who was hiding in breach of a court order.
Officers branded the situation “surreal”, saying the man remained completely still in an attempt to avoid detection.
It wasn’t until backup arrived that the suspect was safely removed from the property.
They likened the moment to Netflix show Stranger Things’ ‘Upside Down’.
A spokesperson for the Met said: “Torch light, creepy shadows, and someone trying to hide in the Upside Down…
“It’s giving Stranger Things 5 vibes as officers sweep the basement for whatever’s lurking down there…”
The footage, shared on social media on Tuesday, has since gone viral, racking up more than 1.1 million views and thousands of comments.
Someone said: “His colleagues are never going to let him forget this.”
Another added: “How do you do your jobs? Just walking around in the dark like that I’d be terrified. You are hero’s.”
A third person wrote: “Well creepy in there, well done guys.”

Somebody else said: “Tough job mate, great professionalism by the officer though..stayed calm and arrested the criminal.”
An amused viewer added: “That’s so funny.”
